History of Manchester Pedestrian Club

Summary:

The Manchester Pedestrian Club began its activities in 1903, and has organised walks in the Greater Manchester area every year since then - including the years of the two world wars.

2003 saw celebrations for the 100th Anniversary of the Club.

For the first hundred years, the MPC was open to gentlemen only, and the Club organised occasional Ladies Days. In 2016, the members voted to welcome ladies into the club.

It is intended that a longer history will be written on this website. However, until then, readers might like to note that, every year, the Members' Handbook contains accounts of all the walks of the previous year, including humorous incidents or points of interest. The Members Handbooks have been deposited with Manchester Central Library.
